Five-Member Committee Formed to Probe Clash at RU

RU Correspondent:  Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have formed a five-member investigation committee on Tuesday to determine the actual cause of the recent clash and attack on campus and recommend necessary actions against those found responsible. The committee has been asked to submit its report within 10 working days.

Following the incident that took place on Monday (July 27), the university administration constituted the committee with Professor Md. Rezaul Karim of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as its convener. The information was confirmed by Professor Dr. S. M. Kamruzzaman, Administrator of the University's Public Relations Office.

Other members of the committee are Professor Md. Golam Sadik of the Department of Pharmacy, Professor Md. Asadul Haque of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor Md. Ariful Islam of the Department of Philosophy, and Professor A. Naeem Faruqi of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamunur Rashid said that following Monday’s incident, the university administration formed the committee to investigate the actual cause of the violence and assess whether the university library and other facilities had suffered any damage.

He added that, with assistance from the police administration, the committee would primarily inspect three locations: the university's Central Library, the RUCSU building—where allegations of an attack have been raised—and the Proctor's Office, which has been identified as the alleged starting point of the incident.

According to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the committee's primary objective is to uncover the root cause of the incident and verify whether any university infrastructure sustained damage.

He further said that the committee members held their preliminary meeting on Tuesday. However, they have not yet reviewed any video footage or photographs. The investigation will proceed through on-site inspections and the collection of relevant evidence from the locations concerned.
