IOM country head discusses bilateral issues with Salahuddin Ahmed

Newly appointed Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bangladesh, Dr. Laura Tom-Bond, paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
The meeting was held on Tuesday (28 July 2026), in a cordial atmosphere at the office of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat. Discussions focused on strengthening the two decades of bilateral partnership between the Bangladesh government and IOM, reinforcing national efforts to combat human trafficking, preventing cyber-enabled human trafficking and improving border management, among other important issues. During the meeting, the IOM Chief of Mission informed the Home Minister that the organization's Deputy Director General, Ugochi Daniels, will visit Bangladesh from August 1 to 5. She also invited the Adviser to attend a special reception to be hosted by the UN House Bangladesh on August 4 in honor of Ugochi Daniels' visit.
Salahuddin Ahmed welcomed the newly appointed Chief of Mission to Bangladesh and assured her of the Ministry of Home Affairs' full guidance and cooperation in preventing human trafficking, modernizing border management, enhancing technological capacity, and ensuring safe migration.
The participants in the meeting also expressed satisfaction that the national validation process for the Integrated Border Management Strategy, jointly developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and IOM, is close to completion. At the same time, IOM reaffirmed its commitment to providing technical assistance to Bangladesh Police's Special Branch and other law enforcement agencies.
