Vidyasagar Society Bangladesh observes 135th death anniversary of Vidyasagar
Vidyasagar Society Bangladesh on Wednesday organized a discussion titled "The Contemporary Relevance of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar" to commemorate the 135th death anniversary of renowned social reformer and educationist Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. The event was held at the Sangskriti Bikash Kendra in the capital on Wednesday.
The programme was chaired by Professor Dr. Rashid Askari, President of Vidyasagar Society Bangladesh, while Dr. Mohammad Abdul Hye, Secretary General of the organization, moderated the session. Prominent academics, writers, researchers and public intellectuals participated in the discussion, reflecting on Vidyasagar's philosophy and its enduring relevance in contemporary society.
Among the speakers were former University of Dhaka Professor Dr. Niranjan Adhikari, Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman, former Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh Rashedul Islam, Dr. Prashanta Kumar Roy, Professor Dr. Chinmoy Howlader, Associate Professor Zahir Uddin Arif of the Department of Marketing at Jagannath University, Associate Professor Meheru Nesa of the Department of English at Jagannath University, University of Chittagong faculty member Kushal Baran Chakraborty, Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Firoz Alom, publisher Dewan Masuda Sultana, Advocate Mahfuz Islam, The Asian Age journalist Mahfuz Ul Hasib Chowdhury and Emran Emon, Media and Publications Secretary of Vidyasagar Society Bangladesh, among others. The speakers emphasized the enduring significance of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's ideals in addressing contemporary social challenges. They stressed that the realization of Vidyasagar's philosophy is essential for building a humane, enlightened and knowledge-based society.
The event, which continued from the afternoon until evening, was attended by more than fifty participants from different parts of the country.
