The Prime Minister's Defence Adviser, Brigadier General (Retd.) A.K.M. Shamsul Islam, visited Bangladesh Armed Forces Board yesterday. During the visit, he announced that the government is working to implement the "One Rank, One Pension" policy for retired members of the armed forces. He also stated that initiatives are underway to establish Defence Colonies for retired military personnel.
The visit took place on Thursday morning, 30 July 2026, at the Bangladesh Armed Forces Board headquarters in Kakrail, Dhaka.
During the inspection, the Defence Adviser provided important directives aimed at ensuring the welfare of retired armed forces personnel and their families. He emphasized expediting the implementation of the "One Rank, One Pension" policy to guarantee fair and equal pension benefits for personnel of the same rank.
He also informed officials that land has already been identified for Defence Colony projects in the districts of Thakurgaon, Gaibandha, and Dinajpur. He directed the authorities to begin implementing the projects in these districts without delay.
The Defence Adviser said that it is essential to ensure a dignified final farewell for former servicemen in recognition of their dedicated service to the nation. To achieve this, he instructed the Bangladesh Armed Forces Board to play a greater role in organizing and supporting the funeral and burial arrangements of retired military personnel. He also directed that the Board's administrative and logistical capacities be strengthened to fulfill these responsibilities effectively.
He further instructed that the Armed Forces Board offices in every district be developed into dynamic centers where retired personnel can gather, receive assistance, and maintain mutual support. He stressed the importance of adopting coordinated plans to enhance their administrative and logistical capabilities.
In addition, to expand healthcare services for retired servicemen and their families, he directed the authorities to increase the number of medical stores across 61 districts to improve access to medicines. He also instructed that the supply of essential life-saving medicines be expanded to better serve retired military personnel and their families.
