'Strict action against unfit vehicles, drivers without licenses'
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan on Friday said strict legal action will be taken against unfit vehicles and drivers without license and reckless driving.He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the body of DNCC sanitation worker Shefali Begum, who was killed in a road accident while on duty in the capital's Madhya Badda, BSS reports.
The administrator said prompt action would be taken against drivers without license and those who cause accidents through reckless driving.
He also urged all concerned to act more responsibly and remain vigilant to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
Khan said sanitation workers serve city residents day and night through their hard work, and everyone's cooperation is needed to ensure they can perform their duties safely and without disruption.
Assuring continued support for sanitation workers, the administrator said the DNCC would always work for their welfare.
Expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased, the administrator announced that the DNCC would provide the family with financial assistance of Tk 400,000 as well as an amount equivalent to one year's salary.
Responding to a question from journalists, he said that if any DNCC vehicle is found to have been operated by a driver without license or a helper, an investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.
However, to his knowledge, no DNCC vehicle is operated by a helper or an unskilled driver.
Earlier, upon receiving news of the accident and following the Prime Minister's directive, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor and the DNCC administrator visited the victim's residence to offer condolences to her family.
