3 more die of dengue, 580 hospitalized
As many as three people died of dengue and 580 new patients were hospitalised across the country in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Monday.
With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll has risen to 59 in the country this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The new deaths were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, and Khulna and Sylhet divisions, it said.
Since January 1 this year, a total of 16,684 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country.
Of them, 15,344 have recovered and been discharged, while 1,281 patients are currently undergoing treatment, according to the DGHS.
Dengue (break-bone fever) is a viral infection that is spread from mosquitoes to people. It is more common in tropical and subtropical than in temperate climates.
Most people who get dengue do not have symptoms. For those who do, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea and rash. Most get better in 1-2 weeks. Some develop severe dengue and need care in a hospital.
In severe cases, dengue can be fatal.
You can lower your risk of dengue by avoiding mosquito bites, especially during the day.
Dengue is treated through pain management as there is no specific treatment currently.
