False Testimony: Former Senior Official Arrested in Dhaka

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested former Joint Secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha for his alleged role in fabricating documents and giving false testimony in the Zia Orphanage Trust case against former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

​Pasha was taken into custody from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area around 8:50 PM on Tuesday following a targeted surveillance operation, DB sources confirmed. He was arriving in the capital on a domestic flight from Cox’s Bazar.

​Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the development on Wednesday afternoon, noting that the former senior official is facing multiple serious criminal charges across various jurisdictions.

​According to police records, Pasha is a named accused in several high-profile cases, including:

​A Special Powers Act case registered with Gulshan Police Station.

​The Parvez murder case at Jatrabari Police Station, linked to violence during the anti-discrimination student movement.

​A case connected to "Operation Eagle Hunt" at Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj.

​The murder case of local BNP leader Altab Hossain at Daulatpur Police Station in Kushtia.

​Detectives further noted his involvement in the December 2013 incident where sand-laden trucks were parked outside the BNP’s Gulshan office to block access to party headquarters.

​DB officials stated that further legal proceedings against Pasha are currently underway, and he is expected to be produced before the court following preliminary interrogation.
