Actor Don arrested over Salman Shah's murder case
Police personnel have arrested actor Ashraful Haque Don, known for playing villainous roles, in connection with the murder case involving popular Bangladeshi film actor Salman Shah.
On Sunday (August 9) afternoon, Kamrul Hasan Talukder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Airport Police Station, confirmed the matter to journalists. He said that Don was arrested by immigration police in the airport area.
A team from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) subsequently arrived and took Don into custody. "A case is currently under investigation by the CID. They are conducting the investigation," he said.
Twenty-nine years after Salman Shah's death, a court ordered that a murder case be pursued last year. The order was issued by Dhaka's Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque.
According to old records, several investigative agencies had previously investigated the mystery surrounding Salman Shah's death. After a lengthy investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a report stating that Salman Shah had died by suicide. However, his family members and fans did not accept the conclusion.
As a continuation of those developments, on October 21 last year, Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, filed a murder case at Ramna Police Station in Dhaka.
The case named 11 people as accused, including Salman Shah's former wife, Samira Haque, and actor Don Haque, who was known for playing villainous characters.
Although speculation about the actual cause of Salman Shah's death has continued for many years, no effective steps had previously been taken to investigate the matter as a murder case. The case is currently being investigated by the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
