Warrant issued against Wing Commander Saifur over Ilias Ali's disappearance
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday issued an arrest warrant against Bangladesh Air Force Wing Commander Saifur Rahman in the case over the alleged enforced disappearance of BNP leader Ilias Ali 14 years ago.
Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order on Sunday following a prosecution petition, prosecutor SM Tasmirul Islam said.
Saifur's name emerged in testimony in June in a crimes-against-humanity case involving more than 100 alleged enforced disappearances and killings.
He was arrested at his home on Jul 26 by military police and remains in military custody. The prosecution sought to formally show him arrested in the case last Thursday. Ilias Ali and his driver were allegedly abducted from Dhaka's Banani area late on Apr 17, 2012, and have never been found.
The prosecution alleges that RAB's intelligence wing was directly involved. Saifur, then a squadron leader, was serving in the unit.
