Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), Dhaka Division on Monday held a preparatory meeting with owners and representatives of public and private organisations possessing heavy rescue equipment to strengthen coordinated firefighting and rescue operations following a major earthquake, according to a press release. The meeting was held at the Fire Service Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) conference room in Mirpur, with Director (Operations and Maintenance) Lt Col Md Mahmudul Hasan, attending as chief guest. Representatives from Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Narsingdi joined the meeting. They discussed contingency planning, training, coordination and rapid mobilisation of cranes, excavators and other heavy equipment during earthquake emergencies.
The chief guest directed Fire Service officials to enhance coordination with stakeholders and proposed forming an "Emergency Equipment Support Team" comprising heavy equipment owners and businesses. Around 70 representatives attended the meeting and pledged to support national disaster response efforts. The meeting concluded with a call for joint training, drills and stronger communication among all stakeholders.
