Dengue cases on the rise, over 20,000 hospitalized

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported 726 new dengue hospitalizations in 24 hours.
With the new cases until 8am on Monday, hospital admissions from the Aedes mosquito-borne this year have reached 20,071.
No deaths were recorded during the period, according to the health directorate.
The death toll from dengue this year remains at 61, including seven deaths recorded in August.
In Dhaka, 101 patients were admitted under the North City Corporation and 83 under the South City Corporation.
In other divisions, 75 patients were admitted in Barishal, 81 in Chattogram, 107 in Khulna, 37 in Mymensingh, 65 in Rajshahi, 172 in Rangpur, and five in Sylhet.
Since Jan 1, 18,567 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, including 724 in the latest 24-hour period.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalizations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalizations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705. More than 400 people died from dengue in 2025, while the total number of identified cases stood around 120,000. By Aug 10 last year, 24,183 patients had been hospitalized and 101 had died.
