Elderly man in trouble after handing over his assets
Nowadays older parents often suffer and feel lonely when their own children do not help or care for them and indifference to their father and mother causes deep emotional pain and financial struggle during their final years.
Sirajul Islam living at a remote village in the district of Satkhira has fallen to prey to the misdeeds committed by his family members.
Siraj used to do a job in government run office as a wood carpenter in the capital and would live a comfortable life then. After retirement from his job, he is living with his wife, sons, daughters and grand sons and daughters with happiness.
But the sad event is that he feels he has become older and he might die any time. As a result, he handed over his hard earned 42 decimal of land and the house to his family members. But the sad event is that Siraj is being neglected now by his successors and he falls prey to the misdeeds from his successors. In the meantime, his sons and daughters and wife sold out that asset and Siraj has driven out from the house.
Now Siraj remains quite alone. His wife, sons and daughters have turned into enemies and they all are against him.
According to psychiatrists, such deep unhappiness often stems from chronic physical pain, loss of independence, loneliness, or untreated depression.
This elderly man is now about to be a mad and boiling with agony, depression and suffers physical and mental disorder.
Siraj told that he loves his adopted daughter Sonia Akter and his husband Faysal Molla, wife Nurjahan, sons Fayjulla, and Abdulla. But after handing over his movable and immovable asset to those, he is being faced the brutality of his own family members.
But a little hope for this senior citizen that Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman said the government goes ahead with amending property transfer laws to allow parents to retain the right to use and possess property during their lifetime even after giving it to their children.
He also explained that under the existing practice of heba, if parents transfer their property to their children through heba, they lose ownership immediately and become entirely dependent on them.
According to the Law Minister, if the children do not look after their parents, there is little legal protection for them and they become helpless. The Transfer Property Act is being amended and government plans to amend the act by incorporating the principle of life interest for parents.
Under the proposed provision, Parents are supposed to retain rights over their asset after giving property to their children. The parents would be able to give property to their children, on the other hand, they retain the right to possess and enjoy it throughout their lifetime, minister said.
Under these circumstances, this victim has brought charge against his family members in the court with a view to getting justice so that he would not boil with miserable life.
Now Siraj is looking forward to the hope of bringing tranquility in the days to come.
