Six senior police officials suspended over prolonged absence
The government has fired six senior police officials, ranging from additional deputy inspector general to assistant police commissioner, for remaining absent from duty for an extended period without leave or permission.
The home ministry on Wednesday in separate notifications signed by its Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury ordered dismissal of the officers.
The suspended officials are Additional DIGs Biplob Kumar Sarkar and Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty (both attached to the Barishal Range DIG Office); Superintendent of Police Md Iqbal Hossain (attached to the Khulna Range DIG Office); Additional Superintendent of Police Rajan Kumar Das of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Cox's Bazar; Superintendent of Police Kazi Ashraful Azim (attached to the Chattogram Range DIG Office); and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Assistant Commissioner Golam Ruhani.
According to the nearly identical notifications the sacked police officers remained absent from their respective workplaces for a prolonged period without obtaining leave or prior permission. The home ministry said the officials were served notices asking them to explain their unauthorised absence, but none of them replied.
The notifications said departmental proceedings later found prima facie evidence of misconduct, prompting the government to remove them from service with immediate effect under Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
