DNCC administrator vows to make Dhaka a clean, modern city
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan on Saturday said the city would be turned into a clean and modern one with the cooperation of all. He made the remarks while inaugurating a special cleanliness drive and rally in Mirpur-2 in the capital, UNB reports.
The DNCC administrator said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has already announced a plan to keep Dhaka clean and green and issued directives to implement it.
Following the directives, the DNCC has started various initiatives, he said, adding that weekly cleanliness and mosquito-control activities are being conducted through schools and colleges to keep the capital free from dengue and control the mosquito population. He urged residents of every neighbourhood and educational institution to cooperate with the city corporation in maintaining cleanliness. "Dhaka city belongs to all of us. Everyone needs to come forward to keep the city clean," he said.
He urged people to dispose of tissues, small water containers and other waste in designated places instead of throwing them on roads or in public spaces.
"If everyone does this, there will be no tissues or scattered waste along the roads. We want to give people a beautiful city," he said.
Special guest and woman parliament member Sanjida Islam Tuli also urged everyone to extend their cooperation to the DNCC's cleanliness campaign.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Ashaduzzaman, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Chief Engineer Brig Gen Syed Raquibul Hasan and Chief Health Officer Brig Gen Imru-al- Quais, among others, attended the programme.
