'BNP delivering beyond electoral pledges'
Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday said his party not only fulfils its election promises but also implements initiatives beyond its manifesto.
"BNP was delivering on its commitments-and going beyond them," he said while responding to criticism over the government's first 180 days initiatives. He made the remarks while speaking at an event at Dhaka's Osmani Memorial Auditorium, BSS reports. The senior BNP leader described the retirement benefits being provided to retired private-school teachers as the BNP's "32nd point," although it was not included in the election manifesto. He said each retired teacher would receive around TK 500,000-TK 700,000 through the digitised iBAS++ system, with the money transferred directly to bank accounts. Highlighting the education initiatives of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Ahmed said efforts to promote practical, production-oriented and technical education began during his tenure.
He added that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia introduced the system of retirement benefits for teachers.
