The Nazrul Charcha Kendra and Kabi Nazrul Pathagar organizations based in Badiakhali, Gaibandha Sadar organized this discussion and cultural event under the title "Mora Jhanjhar Moto Uddam" (We Are Unbridled Like the Storm) at the afternoon of Friday, August 14.
The event was held at the Gaibandha District Shilpakala Academy auditorium, Professor Ferdousi Jahan Siddika, Executive Director of the Nazrul Charcha Kendra, delivered the welcome address, while A. K. M. Hedayetul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) of Gaibandha, spoke as the chief guest; the program was presided over by heroic freedom fighter and Rotarian Colonel Mainul Haque (Retd.), an advisor to the Nazrul Charcha Kendra.
Distinguished guests who delivered speeches included eminent educationist and writer Professor MazharulMannan; District Bar Association President Advocate Sekendar Azam Anam; Gaibandha Government College Principal Professor Abdur Rashid; Advocate Entaz Ali Sarkar; and SONAK President and renowned Nazrul Sangeet artist Afroza Begum Lupu. Spoken-word and cultural activist Shahzadi Habiba Sultana Palash anchored the event from start to finish.
To begin the event, students from the girls' school performed Nazrul's song "Mora Jhanjhar Moto Uddam" in unison. As part of the 'Nazrul Year' celebrations, the organization has also arranged a month-long reading program for its students; it has been announced that the best readers will be rewarded at the end of the month.
Distinguished educationist and writer Professor Mazharul Mannan inaugurated the event by handing out books by Nazrul to the students. Speakers repeatedly highlighted Nazrul's extraordinary talent, noting how he nurtured and flourished his genius despite the crushing hardships of poverty. He faced imprisonment for his writings against the British in colonial India and consistently inspired the youth to rebel against injustice.
The discussants highlighted these points during the discussion. In his address, the chief guest remarked that the habit of reading is an excellent one and that this initiative needs to be widely propagated. He further added that one cannot truly hone one's knowledge without understanding one's own roots. A cultural program was held following the discussion.
The speakers also expressed the role of Nazrul Charcha Centre, together with it regularly shares news, articles, and event updates that explore the literary, cultural, and philosophical legacy of Kazi Nazrul Islam. From academic discussions and seminars to contemporary reflections on Nazrul's relevance today, this platform highlights the centre's ongoing efforts to promote critical thinking, creativity, and inclusive dialogue inspired by the Rebel Poet.
Popular vocalist and dancer Sirajul Islam Sona from Gaibandha, artist Subhas Mallick, and Nazrul Sangeet artist Laila Tajnur Saudi performed songs of Nazrul. Following the musical performances, solo and group dances set to Nazrul's songs were presented.
