Lithuania keen to strengthen bilateral trade ties with Bangladesh: Envoy
Lithuania is keen to strengthen bilateral trade relations with Bangladesh while expanding cooperation in digital transformation, technology development and cybersecurity, Lithuanian Non-Resident Ambassador to Bangladesh Diana Mickeviciene has said.
She made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the latter's secretariat office. "We are interested in exchanging experiences and pursuing technical cooperation to support Bangladesh's digital transformation, technology development and cybersecurity, as well as strengthening bilateral trade relations," the ambassador said.
Mickeviciene noted that Lithuania is a global leader in advanced laser technology, GovTech and FinTech services. She expressed hope that effective partnerships between the public and private sectors of the two countries would create new opportunities for cooperation in technology, innovation and investment.
At the meeting, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that although bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania remains relatively limited, there is significant potential to expand economic cooperation.
Lithuanian technology companies, he said, could use Bangladesh as a gateway to the broader South Asian market by leveraging the country's rapidly expanding ICT sector, skilled young workforce and growing community of freelancers.
"Bangladesh offers a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors," the commerce minister said.
Both sides stressed the need for swift and effective measures to expand bilateral trade, strengthen communication and engagement between business communities, and pursue joint initiatives in technology-driven sectors.
Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan was also present at the meeting.
