Case filed against 150 Gono Odhikar Parishad activists
A case was filed on Sunday morning against approximately 150 activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad following a violent clash and an attack on the motorcade of Kushtia-3 (Sadar) MP Amir Hamza.
Momin Biswas, the personal assistant to the MP, filed the formal complaint (ejahar) at Kushtia Model Police Station around 10:30 AM.
The complaint specifically names Toukir Ahmed, Organizational Secretary of the district unit of Gono Odhikar Parishad, and General Secretary Abdul Khalek, alongside 100 to 150 unidentified individuals.
According to police and locals, the conflict originated from a protest rally organized by Gono Odhikar Parishad on Saturday evening at the city's Choyraster Mor. The protest was directed against a recent statement made by Amir Hamza regarding the group's top leaders and a former VP of Dhaka University.
The clash erupted around 6:30 PM when the MP's vehicle, returning from a political program, attempted to pass through the rally. During the ensuing chaos, the MP's car was attacked and vandalized, leaving at least 10 people from both sides injured.
Amir Hamza alleged that a group led by Abdul Khalek and Toukir Ahmed attacked his vehicle with sticks and stones. In a related development, reports indicate that activists from Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir allegedly retaliated by vandalizing Abdul Khalek's business establishment at 8:30 PM that same night.
Kabir Hossain Matubbor, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station, said legal action will be taken following a thorough investigation into the incident.
