Dinajpur district administration and the district fisheries department on Monday jointly organized the National Fisheries Week-2026 with a call to protect rivers, canals and water bodies to help restore native fish species.
The National Fisheries Day-2026 was inaugurated by releasing the balloon festoon and pigeons at Ramsagar National Park. Dinajpur-Sadar-3 MP Syed Jahangir Alam attended the program as the chief guest. To mention, with the theme "A self-sufficient country in silver fish, Bangladesh first," National Fisheries Week will be observed across the country from August 16 to 30. Speaking the occasion, MP Syed Jahangir Alam said, "The contribution of the fisheries sector is very important in the country's economic progress and meeting the nutritional needs. By ensuring the balanced use of modern technology, the potential of this sector can be increased many times over." Deputy Director of Local Government Sheikh Hafizur Rahman presided over the meeting, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) S.M. Habibul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Halim and District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim spoke as special guests.
After the discussion, mementos and awards were distributed among various individuals and organizations for their special contribution to the fisheries sector.
Officers and employees of the Fisheries Department and local fish farmers were present at the meeting.
