The National Sports Council (NSC) organized an exchange of views with the newly formed ad hoc committees of various sports federations, with the aim of overall development of the sports sector and overcoming the prevailing stagnation. As part of this initiative, the presidents, general secretaries, and all members of the executive committees of 14 federations attended the exchange-of-views meeting on Sunday.
Yesterday, a view exchange meeting with the remaining 13 sports federations was held at the auditorium of the National Sports Council. As the chief guest, Youth and Sports State Minister Md. Aminul Haque answered journalists' questions on the current state of the country's sports sector and future plans.
Regarding the Bangladesh team's historic Test victory over Australia in Darwin, the Sports State Minister said that the Prime Minister has expressed a willingness to support the team. After the national team returns home, details regarding plans to welcome the players will be presented to the media, subject to the Prime Minister's approval.
On the recent state of cricket relations between India and Bangladesh, the minister said, "Work is underway to resolve the bitterness that emerged over Bangladesh's participation in the World Cup in India. Discussions have already been held with the Indian High Commission and the foreign ministries of both countries."
Emphasizing the importance of keeping sports and politics separate, he added, "Sports are above everything. Through sports, we want to normalize bilateral relations with our friendly neighboring country so that regular bilateral series can once again be organized in both countries."
Regarding sports administration and preparations for international competitions, the minister said that committees of 27 sports federations have already been reconstituted. Work is underway on the committees of the remaining federations, and the complete list of the new committees will be officially published very soon.
Regarding the participation of members of the previous committees as officials in various events at the upcoming Asian Games, the minister said that some complications had arisen because the names of the teams and officials for the September Asian Games had already been finalized for the accreditation-card process before the new committees took charge. To resolve the issue quickly, the secretary general of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) has been instructed to discuss the matter with the relevant federations.
The 13 federations represented during Monday's meeting were Bangladesh Carrom, Gymnastics, Karate, Taekwondo, Wushu, Rowing, Kho Kho, Handball, Judo, Fencing, Weightlifting, Amateur Wrestling, and Rugby. Their presidents, general secretaries, and other members of the executive committees were present at the meeting.
