366 more hospitalised with dengue

Another 366 people have been hospitalised with dengue across Bangladesh, taking the total number of admissions this year to 27,388.

No new deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease were reported in the 24 hours to 8am on Thursday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) Friday bulletin.

Of the new cases, 60 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, 55 under Dhaka South and 21 elsewhere in the Dhaka Division.

Among other divisions, Barishal recorded eight admissions, Chattogram 97, Khulna 75, Mymensingh 38, while Rangpur and Sylhet each saw six.

The death toll from dengue this year stands at 77, with 23 of those deaths occurring in August alone, according to the health directorate.

A total of 27,388 people have been hospitalised with dengue since Jan 1 this year, of whom 25,399 have recovered and been discharged.

The DGHS has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.

The disease peaked in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died, the highest figures on record.

Last year saw more than 400 dengue deaths, with around 102,000 cases confirmed.
