3 JMB members sentenced jailed in 2006 Cumilla explosives case
A Cumilla court today sentenced two members of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment each in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act in 2006.
The convicts are Md Mostafizur Rahman, also known as Mintu, Samad and Rajib, of Naogaon, and Mohammad Durul Huda, also known as Hasan, of Chakpara in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
The court also sentenced another accused, Khaleda Akter Rani, to eight years' rigorous imprisonment in the same case. She is Durul Huda's wife.
Khairun Nessa, judge of Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge (Special Tribunal-6) Court, pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
According to the prosecution, a team of then Rab-7 conducted a raid at a house in Bishnupur under Kotwali Police Station in Cumilla on March 13, 2006, and arrested the three along with explosives and bomb-making materials. The raid was conducted based on information obtained during the interrogation of JMB chief Shaykh Abdur Rahman, who was then in Rab custody.
Kotwali Model Police Station filed the case under the Explosive Substances Act the same day. After examining the statements of 13 witnesses and the evidence and documents, the court handed down the verdict today.
Following the verdict, the convicts were sent to Cumilla Central Jail, added Inspector Sadiqur.
