Russian Flag Day celebrated, scholarship recipients receive visas at Russian House in Dhaka

The Russian House in Dhaka hosted two special programmes on Saturday, marking Russian Flag Day and facilitating the final preparations of Bangladeshi students selected for Russian Government Scholarships.

The programmes brought together journalists, Russian Government Scholarship recipients, alumni of Russian universities, students of Russian language courses, academics, professionals and other guests.

The Russian Flag Day programme began with the Russian national anthem, followed by a presentation on the history and significance of the Russian flag. Students of the Russian Language Course participated in the cultural segment, reciting Russian-language poems dedicated to the national flag, including Flag of Russia, Russian Flag and About the Colour of the Flag.

The programme also featured performances of popular Russian songs, including Shirokaya Strana Moya Rodnaya, Katyusha, Kalinka and Matushka, performed by students and other participants.

At another programme held at the Russian House, Bangladeshi recipients of the Russian Government Scholarship received their passports after obtaining their Russian visas, marking a significant milestone ahead of their departure for Russia and the beginning of their academic journey.

The event brought together newly selected scholarship recipients, alumni of Russian universities, professionals with academic and career experience in Russia, as well as current Bangladeshi scholarship holders who joined online from Russian universities to share their experiences.

The programme opened with remarks by Alexandra A. Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka. Among the distinguished speakers were Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Akhtar, Executive Committee Member of the Soviet Alumni Association, Bangladesh (SAAB); Ar. Tania Atiq, General Secretary of the 14th Executive Committee of SAAB; Dr. Barek Kaiser, Assistant Professor at the University of Development Alternative and graduate of RUDN University; Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Oncoplastic & Reconstructive Breast Surgeon at the N. N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology in Moscow and graduate of Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University; and EradaTud Diniat, a 2026 graduate of RUDN University and Russian Nuclear Education Ambassador.

The speakers shared their experiences of studying and living in Russia, highlighting issues related to adapting to a new environment, university life, academic opportunities and professional development.

Current Bangladeshi scholarship holders studying at Russian universities also joined the programme online and shared practical advice with the incoming students on preparing for departure, accommodation, communicating with university authorities, academic life and making the most of opportunities available to international students.

The exchange provided the new scholarship recipients with first-hand insights into the challenges and opportunities they may encounter after arriving in Russia.

For the scholarship recipients, receiving their passports with Russian visas marked more than the completion of an administrative process. It signalled the final stage of preparation before embarking on a new academic and personal chapter in Russia.

The Russian House in Dhaka wished the scholarship recipients a safe journey, successful studies and a rewarding experience in Russia.
