Drug trader with 5kg crystal meth arrested in Teknaf
Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested a drug dealer with 5 kilograms of crystal meth (ice) and 5,000 pieces of yaba pills in two separate operations in Teknaf.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan revealed the information on Monday morning.
He said, "Tipped off that a large consignment of crystal meth (ice) from Myanmar will enter Bangladesh through Golarchar, Naf River, adjacent to Shahparir Island. Later, a special operation was conducted in the area at 3 am on Monday by Coast Guard Station Teknaf and Outpost Shahparir. During the drive, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the drug smugglers fled by leaving a plastic-wrapped package in a forest. Later, a search was conducted at the place and 5 kilograms of crystal meth (ice) was seized in a tea packet wrapped in a polythene bag in a unique way inside the plastic bag."
The Coast Guard's intelligence surveillance and special operations are continuing to identify and arrest drug dealers and other associates involved in the drug trafficking.
On the other hand, another special operation was conducted in the Keruntali area of Teknaf police station in Cox's Bazar at 6 pm on Sunday (August 23), based on secret information. During the drive, a suspicious auto-rickshaw was searched in the area and a drug dealer was arrested with 5,000 pieces of Yaba worth about Tk 25 lakh.
The process of taking further legal action against the seized evidence and the arrested drug dealers is underway.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations in future to prevent the spread of dangerous drugs, the media officer added.
