Kamrangirchar Iron Bridge now open only for pedestrians
Dhaka South City Corporation's (DSCC) Kamrangirchar Iron Bridge, a key connecting bridge in the area, has been reopened after completing renovation work.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the bridge on Friday as the chief guest while Dhaka-7 lawmaker Hamidur Rahman attended the event as the special guest, reports BSS.
Following the renovation, the bridge will now remain open only for pedestrian movement.
With the renovation completed in the shortest possible time, the bridge now offers an opportunity for safe movement.
According to DSCC sources, around 70,000 people use the bridge every day. The renovation will benefit a large number of residents of the Kamrangirchar area.
DSCC Administrator said, "DSCC is committed to making the movement of city dwellers easier, safer and smoother and the renovation of the Bridge in a record time with its own funds is a reflection of that commitment."
He said the bridge would be preserved for future generations and initiative has been taken to revise the eight-lane project in this regard.
The administrator further announced that following the renovation, the bridge would remain open only to pedestrians.
"This will reduce the pressure of vehicles on the bridge while ensuring greater safety and convenience for pedestrians," he noted.
It is to be mentioned, the renovation work of the 145-metre-long and 4.2-metre-wide Kamrangirchar Iron Bridge has been completed within just 25 days with its own funds, which had remained dilapidated for a long time, causing hardship for local residents and pedestrians.
DSCC Executive Engineer of Zone-3 Ahsan Habib, concerned officials and local dignitaries were present at the programme.
