Bangladesh International Squash concludes
The curtain fell on one of the prestigious competition, "Bangladesh International Squash 2026", at Bashundhara Sports City in the capital Dhaka on Friday, with grand finale and closing ceremony. A fiercely contested final between world number 144 Zayed of Egypt and world number 164 Ravindra.
Leading professional squash players from 11 countries of the world participated in the five-day mega tournament that began on August 24.
In the exciting final match of the tournament held on Friday afternoon, Egypt's Zayed Ibrahim performed brilliantly to defeat Sri Lanka's Ravindra Lasari by 3-0 sets and sealed the title. It is worth noting that both the winning and the losing players captivated the audience by displaying their best sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Engineer in Chief, Bangladesh Army. Major General Md Hasan Uz Zaman, ndu, afwc, psc, M Phil, was the chief guest of the closing ceremony and handed over trophies, medals and cash prizes among the winners. Also present were tournament promoter Brigadier General G M Kamrul Islam, SPP (Retd), Bashundhara Sports City executive officer Colonel Mohasinul Karim (retd) and other senior officials, invited guests, local and foreign players and journalists.
The best player of Bangladesh was young talent Parvez Karim. Parvez passed his secondary school this year. The second runner-up was Gohar from Egypt, the first runner-up was Separ from Iran, the runner-up Ravindra from Sri Lanka and the champion Zayed from Egypt were awarded respectively.
The chief guest said, "This tournament is a unique milestone in the history of squash in Bangladesh. With the participation of top stars from 11 countries of the world, this event has proven that Bangladesh is fully ready to host an international squash event."
The organizers informed that the benefits of revolutionary thinking and continuous programs such as 'Classroom Squash', sports and leadership development, 'Squash and Education Scholarship', etc. are visible today.
This international event has not only increased the ranking and experience of the country's players, but has also established Bangladesh as a potential 'squash destination' in the world arena.
The executive officer of Bashundhara City said that the chairman of Bashundhara is a formidable man. He is in business. With success, Bashundhara Sports City has been established with all the sports facilities to contribute to the sports arena of the country. This complex will always be open for the Squash Federation.
