The table tennis event of the ongoing Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival was held on Saturday with Rumel Khan of Protidiner Bangladesh secured the title in the table tennis singles event which was held at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Paltan.
With the overall support of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF), three sports journalists of Protidiner Bangladesh Shamim Hasan, Rumel Khan and Sheikh Sadi, dominated the total of 6 singles and doubles events. Together, the three of them made their organisation shine by winning medals in 5 events.
In the all Protidiner Bangladesh final match of table tennis singles, Rumel Khan defeated Shamim Hasan by 5-11, 11-8, 11-1 set to secure the title. This is his ninth title. On the other hand, Shamim became the runner-up for the second time. Mahmudunnabi Chanchal of Khoborer Kagon became third in this event.
Meanwhile, The Daily Star pair Mohammad Sajjad Hossain Mukul and Shamsul Arefin sealed the title of the doubles category beating Shamim Hasan-Sheikh Sadi pair in the final. Rumel Khan and Mahmudunnabi Chanchal pair became third in this event.
Earlier, the chess event was held on Friday where Morsalin Ahmed clinched the title. Ashrafur Rahman Murad was the runner-up while Zahid Munir became third in the chess event held at the Home of BSPA.
More than a hundred members of BSPA are participating in a total of 12 events in 8 disciplines in the sports carnival. The events are - carrom singles and doubles, table tennis singles and doubles, chess, shooting, archery, swimming, Call Bridge and twenty-nine.
All the games are being held at the National Stadium and various venues adjacent to it.
Meanwhile, the carrom singles and doubles discipline games will be held on Sunday.
The quarter-finals of the carrom doubles and the second round of the singles will be held.
