Bangladesh to send two lakh workers to Malaysia in six months
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said the process of sending 200,000 workers from Bangladesh to Malaysia will begin in phases by the end of September and is expected to be completed within the next six months.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting between Malaysian high commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Suhaida Osman and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan at the Secretariat on Sunday.
"The manpower export from Bangladesh will start in phases by the end of September and will be completed within the next six months," Shahe Alam said, quoting the Malaysian envoy.
"There are currently around 800,000 registered Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia. The process of sending more Bangladeshi workers and registering undocumented workers already in the country is also under way," he said.
Apart from this, Malaysia will take another 10,000 workers at zero cost, he said. "Besides this, they will take 10,000 workers completely free of charge, meaning there will be no cost involved," the state minister said.
A representative accompanying him clarified, "Zero cost."
"Zero cost. That process will also begin in phases towards the end of September," the state minister said.
Asked whether there had been any discussion about a letter sent by the Bangladesh government to Malaysia regarding the import of LNG, the state minister said there had been no discussion on the matter.
