British High Commissioner Calls on State Minister Humaiun
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. Congratulating the State Minister on his assumption of office, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke expressed strong confidence that the Bangladesh-UK partnership would continue to grow and expand during his tenure.
During the meeting, both sides noted with satisfaction the deep-rooted historical ties and vibrant people-to-people connections underpinning bilateral relations. Discussions focused on key avenues to further deepen cooperation, particularly in expanding bilateral trade and investment, solidifying long-term economic ties, and enhancing collaboration in Bangladesh's aviation sector.
The two dignitaries also exchanged views on broadening engagement across key priority sectors, including education, migration and mobility, skills development, and security. On the humanitarian front, State Minister Kobir appreciated the United Kingdom's sustained support for the Rohingya population hosted in Bangladesh. He urged British envoy to maintain its proactive stance in international efforts to facilitate a safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar. In response, the British High Commissioner assured that the United Kingdom will continue its leadership role as the penholder on Myanmar at the UN Security Council, remaining steadfast in keeping the crisis high on the global diplomatic agenda.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to working closely to further advance bilateral, regional and global strategic cooperation on issues of mutual interests.
