Will Aamir Khan replace Saif Ali Khan in ‘Race’?
Aamir Khan is reportedly in talks to headline a reboot of the “Race” franchise, with Sidharth Malhotra and Tiger Shroff also being considered for the action thriller.
Producer Ramesh Taurani is developing the project, with Aamir closely involved in shaping the script, Pinkvilla reports.
Sidharth and Tiger have also heard the script and responded positively, though the project remains at an early stage and the cast has yet to be formally announced.
Aamir has reportedly liked the concept and is working with the writers to develop it further, with the makers hoping to give the franchise a new identity while retaining the twists and suspense associated with the earlier films.
Vijay Krishna Acharya, who previously directed Aamir in “Dhoom 3” and “Thugs of Hindostan”, is set to direct the reboot, according to Pinkvilla. Pre-production has already begun.
The latest reports mark a significant change in direction for the long-running franchise.
Saif Ali Khan, who led the first two “Race” films, had previously been expected to return for the next instalment.
In April 2025, Tips Films said it was in discussions only with Saif and Sidharth for “Race 4”, which was then still in the scripting stage.
The latest version of the project, however, is being described as a reboot rather than simply a fourth instalment, with Aamir potentially becoming the new face of the series. Pinkvilla has not reported that Saif is part of the proposed line-up.
The original “Race”, released in 2008, starred Saif alongside Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Sameera Reddy.
Saif returned for “Race 2” in 2013, while Salman Khan took over as the central star for “Race 3” in 2018.
Sidharth has been linked with the next film for some time, while Tiger is a newer addition to the reported line-up.
Aamir, meanwhile, has yet to formally commit to the reboot and is said to be taking his time over the screenplay before making a final decision.
