Mushfiqur moves up as Shanto slips in ICC Test rankings

Bangladesh cricketers experienced mixed results in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday, with veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim climbing one place while captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto dropped a position.
Mushfiqur has moved up to 16th in the Test batting rankings, improving one place from his previous position. Shanto, meanwhile, has slipped one spot to 21st. Another Bangladesh batter, Liton Das, has retained his 34th position.
In the Test bowling rankings, Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam slipped two places to 15th, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz stayed at 23rd.
England's Harry Brook retained the top spot among Test batters, with Australia's Steve Smith moving up to second and England's Joe Root dropping to third.
Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis climbed two places to enter the top 10 at No. 10 after scoring a half-century in the second Test against India.
Pakistan's Saud Shakeel made a significant jump, rising 15 places to 18th, while Sri Lanka's Sonal Dinusha climbed 29 places to 25th. India's Devdutt Padikkal moved up five places to 54th.
Australia's Mitchell Starc continued to lead the Test bowling rankings. England's Ollie Robinson was among the biggest gainers, moving up six places to fifth following an impressive performance against Pakistan.England fast bowlers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue continue to be on the ascent in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after spearheading their team to a decisive 2-0 lead over Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship series at Lord’s.
Robinson, Player of the Match in both Tests, grabbed four wickets in each innings to finish with impressive match figures of eight for 35. He is now fifth, just a slot below a career-best fourth position achieved in February 2023. His latest gain of six slots means he has progressed 22 places since the start of the series.
Tongue picked up five wickets in the match to move up four places to a career-best 13th position, 20 places up in the series.
Pakistan seam bowler Mohammad Abbas has also gained on the back of some consistence performances, his nine-wicket match haul lifting him up 10 places to joint-15th. Mohammad Ali has moved up 11 slots to reach 81st position after finishing with five wickets in the match.
In other notable movements, India’s number three batter Devdutt Padikkal struck 117 in the first innings to advance from 59th to a career-best 54th and Dhruv Jurel’s unbeaten 115 has taken him from 83rd to 65th. Sri Lanka batter Pasindu Sooriyabandara made 80 and 92 in just his second Test to move up a whopping 170 places to 74th and Kamindu Mendis is back in the top 10 after his second-innings half-century.
Sri Lanka seam bowler Asitha Fernando has moved up four places to 11th, India spinner Manav Suthar has gone up four slots to 44th and Mohammad Siraj has inched up one slot to 17th position.
In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis has attained a career-best fourth position, his scores of 75 versus Namibia and 75 not out and 41 against Zimbabwe in an ongoing tri-series in Windhoek lifting him six slots. Namibia’s Jan Frylinck (up eight places to 98th) is another one to move up the batters’ list while Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans has advanced eight slots to 26th in the rankings for bowlers.
