BD, India urged to build 'one supply chain, two countries, one global ambition'
A special seminar titled "Advancing Bangladesh-India Textile Value Chains through Seamless Logistics and Trade Facilitation" was held recently at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre (BCFEC), Purbachal, Dhaka, focusing on strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and India's textile and apparel industries and facilitating bilateral trade.
The seminar was held from 4:00pm to 5:00pm and was organised by the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI), in co-association with Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS-Global).The session was moderated by Jabed Ahmed, Chief Consultant of CEMS Limited.
The keynote paper was presented by Mustazirul Shovon Islam, Managing Director of Sparrow Group.
He said, 'To sustain Bangladesh's leadership in the global apparel market, we need to increase the production of value-added and higher-value products. This requires high-quality textiles, and India is one of the most accessible and important sources for these raw materials. Rather than calculating how much India or Bangladesh gains or loses, we need to find ways to work together. Our guiding principle should be - 'One Supply Chain, Two Countries and One Global Ambition.'
He said stronger cooperation between the two countries could help build an integrated regional textile and apparel supply chain, enabling both Bangladesh and India to enhance their competitiveness in the global market. The speakers included Amit Kumar Tiwari, Vice President, IBCCI; A.K.M. Saifur Rahman, Director, IBCCI; A.T.M. Altaf Hossain Lotus, Director, IBCCI; Amit Kumar, Country Head, State Bank of India and Director, IBCCI; and Md. Faizur Rabbee, Deputy Director, Invest Bangladesh.
The speakers emphasised the need to improve logistics systems, streamline customs procedures and facilitate cross-border movement to build stronger and more efficient textile and apparel supply chains between the two countries. They observed that reducing trade and logistics barriers could enhance the competitiveness of both Bangladesh and India in the global textile market.
The seminar was held as part of the ongoing 25th Bangladesh edition of the Textile Series of Exhibitions, organised by CEMS-Global USA. The three international exhibitions-25th Textech Bangladesh 2026 International Expo, 26th Dhaka International Yarn & Fabric Show 2026 - Summer Edition, and 53rd Dye+Chem Bangladesh 2026 International Expo - are being held from September 2 to 5 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre, Purbachal.
The exhibitions are showcasing textile and apparel machinery, yarn, fabrics, trims, accessories, dyestuffs, chemicals and the latest technologies. According to the organisers, around 1,475 companies from 37 countries are participating across more than 2,245 booths and pavilions, while the number of business visitors is expected to exceed 16,000.
The exhibitions were inaugurated on September 2. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Meherun N. Islam, President & Group Managing Director of CEMS-Global USA & Asia-Pacific. Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Jute, attended as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Md. Abdus Sabur, Secretary & Director General, Department of Textiles, Ministry of Textiles and Jute, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Special guests and representatives from the industrial sector were present at the event.
Five international seminars are being held alongside the exhibitions. A special feature of this year's event is the Digital Transformation Zone, showcasing modern technologies and solutions including enterprise resource planning (ERP), automation, cloud systems, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and digital machinery.
The exhibitions are open to business visitors from 10:00am to 7:00pm each day and will continue through September 5.
