Govt land allegedly occupied by building shop in Satkania
A government land occupation allegation has surfaced in Satkania Municipality of Chattogram, where a shop has allegedly been constructed by occupying government-owned space beside a busy road near the T&T office adjacent to the PDB office.
The shop is reportedly being operated by displaying chairs, tables and other goods on the roadside, causing obstruction to pedestrians and vehicular movement along one of the major and busiest roads in the area.
The road is also a key route connecting Satkania with Keranihat, and thousands of people and vehicles use it every day. Local residents say the occupation of government land and the placement of commercial goods on the roadside have reduced the usable space of the road, creating difficulties for commuters.
According to locals, the alleged occupation of government land and construction of the shop have taken place openly. Despite this, no visible effective action has been taken by the concerned administration or municipal authorities to reclaim the land.They questioned how an individual could allegedly occupy government property, construct a commercial structure and continue business activities without facing any immediate intervention from the authorities.
Local residents also expressed concern that if such occupation continues unchecked, other people may become encouraged to occupy additional government land and public spaces. This could gradually worsen traffic congestion and create further problems for pedestrians.
Residents have demanded an immediate investigation into the alleged occupation, identification of the actual status and ownership of the land, and removal of any illegal structure if the allegation is found to be true.They also called for measures to ensure that government property is protected and that the important Satkania-Keranihat road remains free from illegal encroachment.
According to local residents, the authorities should not only remove the existing obstruction but also investigate whether there has been any negligence or tacit support behind the alleged occupation of government land.
