Md Shahdat Hossain Receives Microgrid Innovation Excellence Award 2026
Bangladeshi researcher Md Shahdat Hossain has received the Microgrid Innovation Excellence Award 2026 in recognition of his research on digital protection systems for high-voltage power grids.

The award was presented at the International Royal Golden Fellow Award 2026 Ceremony and the Second International Conference on Progressive Research in Humanities, Society and Emerging Methodologies—HORIZON 2.0 2026, held on July 30 and 31, 2026.

The award was conferred by Eudoxia Research University, USA, and Eudoxia Research Centre, India, following an evaluation of numerous high-quality research submissions. Hossain’s research abstract was recognized by the selection committee for its originality, relevance, practical significance, and close alignment with the conference theme.

Research Highlights Digital Grid Protection
At the conference, Hossain presented a survey-based study examining the relationship between awareness, professional training, and the adoption of digital protection systems in high-voltage power grids.

The study surveyed 250 professionals and found significant correlations between awareness and technology adoption, as well as between training and professional skills. The research reported an awareness–adoption correlation of r=0.45 and a training–skills correlation of r=0.41.

The study also identified major barriers to the adoption of digital protection technologies. Cost accounted for 24 percent of the reported barriers, complexity for 20 percent, and skills gaps for 18 percent. At the same time, the research quantified notable performance improvements, including a 20 percent increase in fault-detection performance and a 19 percent improvement in reliability.

Based on these findings, Hossain developed a practical framework intended to assist utility managers, engineers, and policymakers in making strategic decisions regarding investment, professional capacity building, and grid resilience.

International Recognition
The award selection process for HORIZON 2.0—2026 was overseen by an internationally recognized Central Organizing Committee comprising scholars, researchers, and institutional leaders from several countries.

The committee included Prof. Dr. Rhituraj Saikia, President of Eudoxia Research University, USA, as Chief Patron; Prof. Dr. Caleb Moyo, Vice Chancellor, Eudoxia Research University, USA, as Patron; Prof. Dr. Dimitrios A. Other members included Prof. Dr. Rajesh G. Konnur, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Eudoxia Research University, USA; Dr. Smreeti Mehta, Registrar, Eudoxia Research University, USA and CGM, Eudoxia Research Centre, Bangalore, India; Dr. Ashish Baldania, Assistant Professor, L.E. College, Gujarat, India; Prof. Dr. Pratisha Kumari, Vice President, Eudoxia Research University, USA; and Dr. Bulus Pikitda, Dean, School of Humanities, Eudoxia Research University, USA.

Hossain’s study was evaluated on criteria including originality, impact, innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.

Implications for Bangladesh and Beyond
The research has particular relevance for Bangladesh, where modernization of the national electricity grid is increasingly important for improving reliability, reducing losses, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

According to the study’s framework, advanced digital protection systems can help create safer and more stable grid infrastructure capable of managing increasingly complex power flows and renewable-energy integration.

The findings also have potential applications in developed energy systems, including renewable-powered microgrids and electric-vehicle charging infrastructure, where intelligent protection technologies are needed to manage bidirectional power flows, maintain stability, and minimize the risk of outages.

At the global level, the research addresses several emerging challenges in the energy sector, including renewable-energy intermittency, grid instability, rising energy costs, and the need for safer and more resilient power infrastructure.

By connecting empirical research with practical strategies for technology adoption, skills development, and infrastructure investment, Hossain’s work provides a data-driven framework for strengthening the resilience and efficiency of modern power grids.

The Microgrid Innovation Excellence Award 2026 recognizes this contribution and highlights the potential international significance of research originating from Bangladesh in the fields of smart grids, digital protection, microgrids, and sustainable energy systems.
