Two more people have died of dengue, while 988 patients have been hospitalised with the mosquito-borne disease in the past day.
The number of dengue deaths so far this year now stands at 113, while the number of hospitalised patients has increased to 41,032. The Directorate General Health Services said that among the newly admitted patients with the disease, 102 were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation area and 149 in the South City Corporation area. Outside the two city corporations, 176 were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka Division, bdnews24 reports.
In addition, 170 people were hospitalised in the Barishal Division, 123 in Chattogram, 163 in Khulna, 50 in Mymensingh, six in Rangpur and 49 in Rajshahi.
The health directorate has maintained records of dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
In 2023, 321,179 people were hospitalised with dengue, the highest annual figure on record. That year also saw the country's highest number of dengue deaths, at 1,705.
Last year, more than 400 people died of dengue, while around 120,000 cases were recorded.
