8th China Ambassador Cup Wushu begins
With the aim of preparing a stage for success in the international arena by bringing talented players from the grassroots, the eighth China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship began at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday with the participation of 279 athletes from 19 clubs.
Former Air Vice-Marshal and Member of Parliament Altaf Hossain Choudhury formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.
Li Shaopeng, cultural counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Dhaka, was present as the special guest at the inauguration ceremony of this competition organised by the Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) and sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh. Federation President Saiful Islam Bhuiyan presided over the ceremony. Tournament Committee Chairman SM Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan were present, among others, in the opening ceremony.
Federation General Secretary Md. Dildar Hasan Dilu said, "The main goal of this competition is to bring players from the grassroots." He said that the federation is moving forward with a long-term plan to win international medals. As part of this, there is a plan to organize the South Asian Junior Wushu Championship in Bangladesh next January.
Speaking as the chief guest, he said sports can play an important role in keeping young people healthy and helping them build a better society.
As part of this initiative, the federation is going to organise the South Asian Junior Wushu Championship to develop young athletes and prepare them for international competition.
Recently, the Federation has issued registration certificates to 93 clubs to strengthen the organizational foundation of Wushu.
It is worth noting that 17 teams participated in the seventh edition last year. This time, Bangladesh Army became the champion in the Services category and Chittagong Wushu Academy became the champion in the District and Club categories.
