Initiative taken to establish e-Parliament system
An initiative has been undertaken to implement an e-Parliament system aimed at establishing a paperless, modern and technology-driven Parliament.
Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Library Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, along with committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and A B M Mosharraf Hossain, paid a courtesy call on Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, in this regard. During the meeting, they stressed the need to implement the e-Parliament system to make parliamentary activities more dynamic, modern and technology-oriented, BSS reports.
The proposed system will have both Bangla and English versions. It will make parliamentary document management, information preservation and information exchange easier, faster and more effective.
The Speaker directed the formation of a committee, headed by the Deputy Speaker, to oversee the implementation of the e-Parliament system. The committee will review the proposed system's structure, implementation process, required technological infrastructure and other related issues and take necessary measures, said a press release issued by the Parliament Secretariat.
The Speaker also directed that a presentation on the e-Parliament system be made by the end of September. The presentation will highlight the proposed system's operational mechanism, technological capabilities, implementation plan and other important aspects.
The meeting noted that implementation of the e-Parliament system would mark an important milestone for the incumbent government. Once introduced, various parliamentary activities and documents will be managed digitally.
The system will reduce paper use and save time and administrative costs while increasing the speed, efficiency and coordination of parliamentary activities.
The meeting also decided to contact the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), donor countries and donor agencies to secure necessary technical and other assistance for implementing the project. Their support will be sought at subsequent stages of the project, as necessary.
The e-Parliament system is being considered an important and timely step towards establishing a paperless and technology-driven Parliament.
Officials concerned of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
