The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three people, including a man accused of shooting and seriously injuring his wife at their home in Darus Salam area of the capital.

The arrestees were identified as the woman's husband, Md Abdul Mannan alias Abdul Hannan, 45, their son Md Rakib, 25, and Rakib's friend Md Hatem Mia, 21.

They were arrested during an overnight operation in Darus Salam thana area on Saturday, RAB said.

A foreign-made pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullets and 215 yaba tablets were recovered from theier possessions.

RAB-4 Commander Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman disclosed the information at a press briefing at the RAB Media Centre on Sunday afternoon.

He said the woman was shot at her home in Masjid Goli area under Darus Salam Police Station on Saturday evening.

She was initially taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated. She is undergoing treatment there.

Following the incident, a team of RAB-4 went to the scene and began an investigation. Later, with the help of information technology, the locations of the suspects were identified and an operation was conducted in cooperation with Darus Salam police, leading to their arrests.

During preliminary interrogation, Abdul Mannan told RAB that he was the woman's husband and was involved in drug dealing and various other criminal activities.

According to RAB, Mannan said he returned home after taking drugs on Saturday evening and got into an argument with his wife. At one point, he became angry and shot her with a pistol, leaving her seriously injured.

RAB said Mannan also told investigators that after the shooting he handed the firearm to his son Rakib to hide it. After Rakib was arrested, he reportedly said that he had hidden the weapon at a friend's house.

Later, RAB recovered the pistol, a magazine and two rounds of bullets from the house of Rakib's friend Hatem.

RAB claimed that Abdul Mannan has allegedly been involved in drug dealing, extortion and intimidation. Several cases, including those related to drugs, snatching and extortion, have been filed against him with different police stations in the capital.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the concerned police station for legal action, RAB-4 said.
