Dengue claims four more lives
The dengue situation in Bangladesh is getting worse day by days as the country reported four more deaths due to the mosquito-borne fever in 24 hours till 8:00am on Monday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 1,314 new patients were hospitalised across the country during the period, the DGHS said.
With the latest fatalities, the dengue death toll has risen to 121.
The new deaths were reported in Dhaka and Khulna divisions, and Dhaka South City Corporation.
Of the new patients, 153 were hospitalized in Barisal division, 198 in Chittagong division, 225 in Dhaka division, 143 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 139 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), 235 in Khulna division, 81 in Mymensingh division, 99 in Rajshahi division, 36 in Rangpur division and five in Sylhet division, a DGHS statement said.
So far this year, 43,904 people have been hospitalised with dengue, of whom 40,709 have recovered and been discharged.
The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest number of hospitalisations, 321,179, and deaths, 1,705, were recorded in 2023.
More than 400 people died from dengue last year, while around 102,000 cases were identified.
