Allegations against LGED PD found unsubstantiated after review

Allegations against LGED PD found unsubstantiated after review

A recent allegation of an extramarital and inappropriate relationship against Atikul, Project Director (PD) of the River Project under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), has been found to be baseless and unsubstantiated following a detailed review and verification of the information, according to a press release.

The allegations had earlier been reported based on information received from a source, suggesting an inappropriate relationship between the project director and the wife of an executive engineer. The report generated considerable discussion within administrative circles.

However, as part of our professional responsibility, the matter was subsequently reviewed in greater depth, including verification of the available information and communication with the relevant parties. The review found no official or factual evidence to substantiate the allegations.

The episode appears to have resulted from a misinterpretation of information and a lack of adequate verification before the allegations were published.
Objectivity, accuracy and responsible reporting are fundamental principles of journalism. In view of the findings of the subsequent review, and to ensure that unsubstantiated information does not unfairly damage the reputation of a responsible public official or the institution he represents, this clarification and correction is being published regarding the previously reported information.
