UIU hosts HR leaders to guide future business graduates
United International University (UIU) organised a career-focused programme titled “Meet and Question the HR Leaders” on Tuesday, bringing final-year BBA students face-to-face with senior corporate and human resource (HR) professionals.
Organised by the BBA Programme Office of the School of Business and Economics (SoBE), the programme aimed to give students first-hand insights into the corporate world, including employers’ expectations, recruitment practices, career development and workplace challenges, according to a press release.
The programme featured senior professionals from multinational corporations, banking, diversified businesses, recruitment, financial services, real estate and media.
Dr Md Musharrof Hossain, HR Advisor at icddr,b and Founder President of the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organizations (FBHRO), delivered the keynote address.
He shared insights into future-ready HR leadership and highlighted the skills and competencies employers are increasingly seeking from business graduates.
A panel discussion brought together M Shabbir Ali, SHRM-SCP, Corporate Head of HR and Director at Transcom Ltd; Asif Zaman, Chief Human Resources Officer at Citibank N.A.; Md Kamruzzaman (Sabuj), Chief Executive Officer of Myjobs.com.bd; Abu Shaleh Mohammed Shameem, Chief People and Culture Officer at National Finance PLC.; Shabah Kabir Nabi, Senior Manager, Human Resources and Administration at Sheltech (Pvt.) Ltd.; and Md Mahmudul Hasan Khan, Head of HR and Admin at The Daily Star.
The panelists discussed a range of issues relevant to students entering the job market, including career development, recruitment strategies, professional ethics, leadership, workplace adaptability, communication, organisational culture and the competencies required to succeed in a competitive corporate environment.
The session was chaired by Prof M Niaz Asadullah, Advisor-Adjunct, SoBE, UIU, who shared his observations on emerging job-market opportunities and key considerations for students preparing to enter professional life.
Prof Dr Salma Karim, Director of the BBA Programme at SoBE, UIU, moderated the session and facilitated the interaction between the corporate leaders and students.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students directly sought advice from the panellists on career preparation, professional growth and workplace expectations.
UIU officials said the initiative was part of the BBA Programme’s efforts to strengthen academia-industry collaboration and help students develop the skills, confidence and professional outlook needed to navigate the evolving corporate environment.
Heads of departments, faculty members, HR professionals, administrative officials, students and senior representatives from the corporate sector attended the programme.
