21 DU students receive Trust Fund Scholarships
Twenty-one students from various departments of Dhaka University (DU) have received Trust Fund scholarships. Of them, 14 students received the Aminur Rahman Khan Memorial Scholarship, while seven students received the Professor Shaheen Ahmed and Kazi Anwar Ahmed Trust Scholarship. The scholarships were awarded at separate ceremonies held today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in the meeting room adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor's Office. The Professor Shaheen Ahmed and Kazi Anwar Ahmed Trust Scholarships were awarded at 10:00 a.m., while the Aminur Rahman Khan Memorial Scholarships were presented at 10:30 a.m.
Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, attended both ceremonies as the chief guest. The events were chaired by Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Treasurer of the University.
Also present at the ceremonies were Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarker, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Professor Mohammad Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Professor Dr. Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Dr. Md. Rafiul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Anthropology; Dr. Priyanka Gop, Chairperson of the Department of Music; Acting Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmed; donor member and retired Professor of the Department of Anthropology Dr. Shaheen Ahmed; and other concerned officials.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam said, "It is our moral responsibility to stand beside meritorious students. The financial assistance being provided to students through Trust Funds will not only help them continue their studies without financial difficulties but will also play an important role in developing their talents and potential." He expressed his sincere gratitude to the donors of the Trust Funds for undertaking such a noble initiative.
He further said that scholarships of this kind are not merely financial assistance for students; they also serve as an inspiration for them to move forward. "We hope that the scholarship recipients will utilize their merit and abilities to make significant contributions to the welfare of the country and society in the future," he added.
Under this Trust Fund, scholarships are awarded every year to meritorious undergraduate students studying in the departments of History, Music, Political Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Fisheries, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Dhaka.
Based on recommendations from the respective departmental academic committees, one student from each of the seven departments receives a one-time scholarship of Tk 12,000. A total of 14 students from the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic sessions received the scholarship this year.

Department of History: Md. Hanif Ali and Sadia Afrin
Department of Music: Arpita Chowdhury and Upoma Barman
Department of Political Science: Sadia Tasnim and Nusrat Jahan
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology: Mst. Sumi Akter and Raiyan Mahmud Pratik
Department of Fisheries: Md. Atikur Rahman and H. M. Tayfur Rahman
Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology: Md. Rakib Hasan and Mahmudul Haque
Department of Nuclear Engineering: Jarin Tahsin Anjum and Md. Ripon Hossain
Under this Trust Fund, seven undergraduate students from the Department of Anthropology at the University of Dhaka are awarded scholarships each year based on academic merit. This year's recipients include four first-year students, one second-year student, one third-year student, and one fourth-year student. Each recipient received a one-time scholarship of Tk 20,000.
The scholarship recipients for the 2024-2025 academic session are:
1st Year: Nusrat Jahan Lamia, Aachia Jannat Supti, Masum Billah, and Sabbir Ahmed
2nd Year: Md. Rumman Hossain
3rd Year: Ismail Ali
4th Year: Md. Naimuddin
