Bangladesh to host Windies for two-Test WTC series in October
Bangladesh to play one-off Test against Afghanistan, tri-series in October
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday evening announced the itinerary for the home series against West Indies.
The Caribbean side will visit Bangladesh in October-November for two-match Test series, which is the part of ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
Bangladesh currently sit at the fourth spot of the WTC standing and have genuine chance to make it to the final for the first time.
Their standing was improved following a historical Test victory against Australia last month. They, though, lost the second Test to draw the series eventually on Australian soil, the performance made them favorite in this WTC cycle.
West Indies, meanwhile, are in eighth position in the WTC standing at this moment.
Bangladesh will start as clear favourite in the series and victory in two Tests would help them make giant stride toward the final.
According to the schedule released by the BCB, the West Indies will arrive in Bangladesh on October 18.
The visitors will play a three-day warm-up game at Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka from October 22-24.
The first Test will be held from October 28-November 1 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host the second and final Test from November 5-9.
Meanwhile, The Afghanistan Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday confirmed the schedule for one-off Test against Bangladesh and a tri-nation series in October.
The tri-series will involve Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
According to the itinerary released by the Afghanistan, the one-off Test against Bangladesh will be held from October 9-13 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This will be Bangladesh first red-ball experience in UAE.
The ODI Tri-Nation Series will be held from October 17-23.
The series will kick start with the match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe on October 17 before Zimbabwe facing hosts Afghanistan on October 19.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh then meet in the final league fixture on October 21 with the top two sides progressing to the final on 23 October.
Afghanistan then will take on Zimbabwe for three-match T20 and two-match Test series.
Afghanistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Naseeb Khan welcomed the confirmation of the schedule.
"We are pleased to confirm this important period of international cricket for the Afghanistan National Team," he said. "Playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe across different formats will provide our players with valuable competitive opportunities and offer our supporters an exciting period of international cricket.
Bangladesh Cricket Board Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury was similarly upbeat about the tour ahead, particularly the red-ball assignment.
"The Test match and the tri-nation series promise an exciting period of cricket for fans in both Bangladesh and Afghanistan," he said.
"We attach great importance to Tests, and this will be an excellent opportunity for our players to experience red-ball cricket in the UAE for the first time and challenge themselves against a formidable Afghanistan side that has traditionally performed well in these conditions," Nizam Uddin Chowdhury added.
