Sandhya Rani Dhar, mother of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari-spokesperson for the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote-has passed away. She breathed her last around 9:34 AM on Thursday (September 10) at the Sri Sri Pundarik Dham Ashram in Hathazari, Chattogram.
According to family sources, before her death, Sandhya Rani Dhar had personally expressed her desire last Tuesday to go to this ashram. Chinmoy Krishna Das had also resided at this ashram for a long time.
Earlier, after falling ill, she was undergoing treatment at the Chattogram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, where medical tests revealed she had cancer.
However, Sandhya Rani Dhar did not wish to stay in the hospital. Her wish was to spend the final moments of her life at her son's ashram.
Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, has been detained in prison since November 25, 2024. Due to her son being incarcerated for a long period, Sandhya Rani Dhar was emotionally broken.
It is reported that she was under deep distress owing to news of her son's illness, repeated denial of his bail, and his lack of release from prison.
On October 31 of the same year, a case was filed against 19 people, including him, at the Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram on charges of insulting the national flag. The plaintiff was Firoz Khan, the then General Secretary of the Chandgaon Mohra Ward BNP in the city.
Chinmoy Das was arrested from Dhaka on November 25, 2024, in connection with that case. The following day, when he was produced before a Chattogram court, his bail application was rejected.
At that time, amidst clashes between his followers and law enforcement agencies, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was beaten and hacked to death in an area adjacent to the court premises.
In connection with this incident, Alif's father, Jamal Uddin, filed a murder case naming 31 individuals. Later, following an application by the investigating officer, Chinmoy Das was also shown arrested in that case.
Additionally, he was shown arrested in several other cases, including three filed by the police regarding attempted murder, assault, obstruction of police duties, attacks on lawyers and litigants, and crude bomb explosions, as well as one case filed by Alif's brother.
