DSCC to take stern action for negligence in mosquito control
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator and valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam has warned that strict action will be taken against the persons for failure to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds around homes, shops or establishments.
He said this while addressing a tree sapling distribution and tree plantation programme at Azimpur Government Girls School and College in the capital on Thursday, BSS reports. The programme was organized jointly by Paribesh Unnayan Sangstha-Bangladesh and Azimpur Government Girls School and College under a programme titled "Environmental Conservation and Addressing the Risks of Climate Change."
Abdus Salam urged city dwellers to keep their homes and surroundings clean to prevent dengue.
He said stagnant water must not be allowed to remain for more than three days on rooftops, in drains, flower pots, or under refrigerators and air conditioners.
He warned that no leniency would be shown if stagnant water in under-construction buildings, particularly basements, becomes a mosquito breeding ground.
A nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign will begin on September 12, he said urging students to participate in the campaign.
The administrator said a target has been set to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years to combat climate change and create a habitable environment for future generations.
He also urged people to avoid indiscriminate dumping of plastic and polythene waste everywhere.
Responding to students' demands, he assured of taking initiative to install a water pump, remove a relevant foot over bridge and contact the concerned ministry over making bus tolls free.
He also announced Taka 100,000 from his personal fund for students' tiffin.
State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid, lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Hamid and Azimpur Government Girls School and College Principal Professor Nurjahan Akter, among others, attended the programme.
