A high-level meeting was held with members of the Board of Directors of Ansar-VDP Development Bank to discuss comprehensive reforms and progress aimed at transforming the bank into a more modern, efficient, digital, accountable and people-oriented institution.
The meeting was held on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Nazma Mobarek, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance, according to a press release.
Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmood, Director General of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force (Ansar-VDP) and Chairman of the bank’s Board of Directors, represented Ansar-VDP Development Bank at the meeting.
At the outset, a detailed presentation was made on the bank’s overall activities, current status, recent progress, existing challenges and future action plans. Various measures to make the bank’s operations more dynamic, modern and technology-driven were highlighted in the presentation.
During the meeting, Financial Institutions Division Secretary Nazma Mobarek identified the existing challenges facing Ansar-VDP Development Bank and provided important directions on measures to overcome them.
She emphasized maintaining the momentum of the bank’s recent performance and progress. She also called for expanding investment in promising and productive sectors to create greater employment and financial development opportunities for members of the Ansar-VDP family. Several important issues were discussed to reform the bank and strengthen its institutional capacity. These included expediting recruitment against vacant posts, ensuring the optimum utilization of experienced and skilled personnel, increasing paid-up capital, modernizing existing regulations, enhancing accountability and efficiency, and ensuring effective good governance.
The meeting also discussed the need to identify the actual causes of the bank’s losses during the 2023-24 fiscal year, adopt effective and incentive-based measures to recover written-off loans in accordance with applicable Bangladesh Bank circulars, and further strengthen the bank’s overall loan management system.
Emphasis was also placed on implementing HR Automation/ERP by 2029 to make employee-related services faster, more transparent, efficient and effective.
The meeting expressed a commitment to developing Ansar-VDP Development Bank into a modern, technology-driven and good-governance-based financial institution. Participants expressed hope that establishing an efficient, digital, accountable and sustainable bank would further accelerate financial inclusion, entrepreneurship development and financial capacity-building initiatives for the country’s large Ansar-VDP community.
Managing Director of Ansar-VDP Development Bank Mir Mofazzal Hossain and other members of the Board of Directors attended the meeting.
Additional Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Md. Azimuddin Biswas, ndc; Md. Saeed Qutub; Abu Saleh Md. Mohiuddin Khan, ndc; Joint Secretary Farida Yasmin; and other relevant officials were also present.
