Bangladesh U19 lifts GD Trophy after rain ruins final

Bangladesh Under-19 lifted the Game Development Trophy (GD Trophy) after the final against Bangladesh Under-23 was abandoned due to persistent rain at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
According to the tournament bylaws, the U-19 side was declared champions on the basis of their superior position in the points table after rain prevented the match from producing a result.
U-19's opener SK Jarif Siyam made highest 180 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 96 in the tournament and was gifted a bat for his superb performance.
Bangladesh U-23 won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled early in their innings. Mohammad Abdullah steadied the innings with 47 off 54 balls, while Ahrar Amin Pian scored 46 off 61 balls and Debashish Sarkar Deba contributed 43 off 41 balls.
Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi provided late acceleration with a 26-ball 31 as Bangladesh U-23 were bowled out for 245 in 49.4 overs.
Tafiul Alam Tamim was the standout bowler for the U-19 side, claiming six wickets. Sheikh Atiqur Rahman took three wickets and Al Rafi claimed one.
Bangladesh U-19 began their chase positively but reached 99 for five in 17.2 overs before rain forced another interruption and ultimately brought the final to an end.
Abdullah Al Muhi scored 20 off 19 balls, while Farhan Sadiq struck a quick 29 off 15 balls and Ahsan Al Mumin made 24 off 27 balls.
For the U-23 side, Mohiuddin Tarek, Sheikh Parvez Jibon, Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi, Swadhin Islam and Ahrar Amin Pian took one wicket each.
Earlier, Bangladesh Under-19 Tafiul Alam Tamim demonstrated a stellar performance the GD Trophy final, claiming six wickets as Bangladesh Under-23 were bowled out for 245 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today.
The right-arm pacer returned figures of 6-36 from 8.4 overs, spearheading the U-19 attack in the final.
The U-23 side, after winning the toss and electing to bat, initially looked to rebuild after losing Adil Bin Siddique to Sheikh Atiqur Rahman Akash. Azizul Hakim Tamim and Kalam Siddique Eleen then attempted to steady the innings.
Introduced in the 13th over, Tafiul quickly changed the course of the innings. Hakim, who made 15 off 29 balls, was caught attempting a big shot, before Tafiul dismissed Rizan Hossain with the following delivery. The pacer had to wait for his next breakthrough but returned in the 43rd over to break an 86-run partnership between Debashish Sarkar and Ahrar Amin Pean, dismissing the latter.
Tafiul struck again with the first ball of his next over, removing Debashish for 43 off 41 balls, with Farhan Sadiq taking an excellent catch.
He completed his five-wicket haul in the following over by bowling Sheikh Parvez Jiban, before returning in the final over to dismiss Sadhin Islam, wrapping up the U-23 innings with two deliveries remaining.
Tamim's six-wicket haul was complemented by Akash, who finished with 3-40, as the U-19 bowlers kept the U-23 batting lineup under sustained pressure.
