Journalist's Hanging Body Found in Barishal City
Police have recovered the hanging body of journalist Pulak Chatterjee from the Dainik Samakal office in Barishal city.
SI Mehedi Hasan of Kotwali Police Station under Barishal Metropolitan Police said, "Receiving the news around 7:00 PM on Friday, we came to the second floor of that building on Peyara Road. There, inside the Samakal office, his body was found hanging from a rope."
The second and third floors of that building house the offices of several other news outlets, including Jugantor and Alokito Bangladesh.
57-year-old Pulak Chatterjee was once the Bureau Chief of Samakal. According to his family, he was laid off around 2023. He had been unemployed ever since. Pulak Chatterjee leaves behind his wife and a daughter.

Pulak Chatterjee's brother, land officer Deepak Chatterjee, who arrived at the scene upon hearing the news, said his brother was somewhat depressed due to being out of work.
"It could have happened because of that as well," he said.
Pulak's wife, Nilotpala Mukherjee, who was present at the scene, told journalists, "He was depressed ever since he lost his job. But no one thought he would commit suicide over this."
Samakal Bureau Chief Suman Chowdhury told reporters that Pulak Chatterjee had a spare key to the office. He used to come and sit in the office occasionally.
Dainik Jugantor journalist S. M. Palash said, "Our office is on the third floor. I used to see Dada occasionally coming here to sit and read the newspaper. This evening, Samakal journalist Suman Chowdhury came and mentioned that Bhabhi couldn't reach Pulak Dada on the phone, so he asked to check on him."
"After that, he rushed to the office. Since today is Friday, the office assistant, Deepak, wasn't there. Suman Chowdhury found the door locked from the inside. He then told us he could see the hanging body through a gap. The police were informed immediately.
