Huge quantity illegally hoarded edible oil seized in Mongla
Members of a joint force seized unusual stocks of around 15,600 litres of edible oil in Mongla of Bagerhat as part of nationwide drives to prevent an artificial crisis.
Mongla Upazila administration and Bangladesh Coast Guard in Mongla conducted the operation on Saturday afternoon at the warehouse of Sabur Talukdar-owner of 'M/S Shobha Store' located in the main market of Mongla municipal town.
During the raid, 15,600 liters of crude soybean oil, illegally stockpiled via smuggling, were seized from 78 barrels in Sabur's warehouse.
It has been alleged that Sabur had long been adulterating this crude oil and selling it in the market.
Officials present at the operation included Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Akter Sumi, along with personnel from the Coast Guard, police, and intelligence agencies.
Speaking the occasin, UNO Sharmin Akter said, "Acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard seized 78 barrels of illegally smuggled oil from the warehouse of grocer Sabur. The seized oil is being handed over to the police, and preparations are underway for the Coast Guard to file a regular case regarding the incident. Further necessary actions will be taken in accordance with court directives."
