Complaint filed with ICT over Sagar-Runi murder

A complaint was filed on Sunday with the Office of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) over the sensational murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

Runi's brother, Nowsher Alam Roman submitted the written complaint to ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam, seeking its registration and legal action under the International Crimes Tribunal Act following a proper investigation, BSS reports. The complainant said the family members of Sagar and Runi want the International Crimes Tribunal to conduct a fair and proper investigation, identify the actual killers and those responsible for the murders, bring them to justice and ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam told reporters that a formal complaint had been submitted over the killing of the journalist couple.

"I will examine whether the matter falls within the jurisdiction of the International Crimes Tribunal. If we find any evidence or any connection related to the Sagar-Runi murder in any of our investigations, we will provide the information to the relevant investigating agency," he said.

The journalist couple was brutally murdered at their rented flat in the city's West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012, in presence of their four-year-old son, Mahir Sarwar Megh.

Runi's brother, Nowsher Alam Roman, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this connection.
